State Representative Tina Pickett is co-sponsoring a bill to crackdown on squatters in Pennsylvania.

House Bill 2237, also known as the Homeowner Protection and Squatter Eviction Act, aims to strengthen the rights of property owners and homeowner protections against squatters.

The proposed bill would allow police to immediately remove a squatter from the property if the homeowner signs an affidavit stating they are the lawful owner of the residence.

It would also increase the penalty for any squatter who causes $1,000 or more in property damage while unlawfully occupying a residence to a felony in the first degree.

The bill was referred to the judiciary committee on April 25.
