Sayre Rotary has announced the winners of this year’s Rotary essay contest from Sayre High School and honored them recently at Rotary’s weekly luncheon. The 1st place winner was Heidi Elston, the 2nd place winner was Emily Sutryk and the 3rd place winner was Annabelle Ennis.

Each of the winners read their essays to the Rotary Club and were presented with monetary prizes after enjoying lunch with their families at the Grill at the Station.

This year’s theme, which was open to 11th grade students, was “Be the Inspiration” which is the theme of Rotary International for 2018-19. The essay was to describe how someone inspired the writer, or how the writer inspired others or how the writer thinks others can be inspired in the future.

Heidi Elston’s 1st place essay will be submitted to the Rotary International District 7410 Essay Contest for judging, where monetary prizes will be awarded for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners.

Mike Frantz of Sayre High School has been instrumental in organizing this essay contest this year and many years in the past. Sayre Rotary would like to express its gratitude.

Anyone interesting in learning more about Rotary is welcome to attend the weekly luncheon Tuesdays at 12:10 pm at the Grille at the Station or “like us” on Facebook.
