The attorney representing the Pennsylvania State Trooper who was found guilty of causing the crash that killed a Troy teacher is asking the judge to vacate the verdict and order a new trial.
Trooper Michael Brown was convicted of homicide by vehicle after the jury found he was responsible for causing the accident that killed 47-year-old Christine Woodward back in February of 2023.
Brown was off duty and heading to work when he tried to pass a vehicle on double yellow lines on Route 6 in Sullivan Township in Tioga County when he hit the car driven by Woodward.
Brown was convicted in May, but according to WENY-TV, his attorney is now alleging that several jurors in the trial provided “false, untrue and quite candidly deceitful information about their backgrounds.”
The attorney is accusing jurors of not disclosing their own criminal records and their own experiences when it comes to being a victim of a crime. He also accuses one juror of posting on social media about the case during the trial when they are restricted from doing so.
Brown’s sentencing has been postponed indefinitely with an evidentiary hearing set for Aug. 9th on the allegations from his defense team.
