The Susquehanna County Commissioners recently voted to close the county’s jail due to high costs and low inmate numbers.
Commissioners have said the move will save Susquehanna County $3 million dollars a year.
The 20 inmates who are currently in the jail will be transferred to facilities in Wayne, Wyoming and possibly Lackawanna County.
The Susquehanna County Jail can hold up to 130 inmates at a time, but currently houses an average of between 20 and 40 inmates.
The jail will officially close its doors on Friday.
