A Towanda man was convicted of arson in Bradford County Court on Tuesday.

According to the Bradford County District Attorney’s Office, 62-year-old Robert Wayne Devine was convicted of arson, endangering property, a second-degree felony following his arrest on August 27, 2023.

Devine was arrested when a Towanda police officer saw black smoke coming from an area near Second Street and Third Street in Towanda. Devine was seen throwing boxes and other items onto the fire.

Police eventually had to use a taser on Devine when he refused to leave an upstairs bedroom and was found hiding with a machete. No one was injured during the incident.

Devine will be sentenced on July 1.
