Towanda punches ticket to Scholarship Challenge final, joining Newark Valley, NEB and Grace Christian Academy


The fourth and final qualifying round for the 44th annual Scholarship Challenge took place on Saturday and the two-time defending champion Towanda Black Knights punched their ticket to the finals.

Towanda will have a chance to win their third straight Scholarship Challenge title when they battle Newark Valley, Northeast Bradford and Grace Christian Academy in the finals on Saturday, March 16.

Wellsboro opened the fourth round action with a win over Waverly in tiebreakers. The Hornets then took down Tioga to advance to the finals.

On the other side of the bracket, Notre Dame got the win over Elmira and then took on Towanda. It would be the Black Knights coming out on top to set up a showdown with Wellsboro.

The teams were tied after the first 30 questions. Towanda would then pick up the win in tiebreakers to earn their spot in the finals on March 16.

Scholarship Challenge continues this Saturday, March 9 with Middle School Challenge. Teams from Athens, Sayre, Tioga, Spencer-Van Etten, Northeast Bradford, Wyalusing, Sullivan County and Wellsboro will compete on the Sayre Theatre stage starting at 10 a.m. It will be broadcast live on all Radigan Media stations.
