Valley Energy is asking the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission to approve an increase in its rates for natural gas service.
According to the Bradford Sentinel, the local energy company is seeking to raise an additional $1.6 million or increase revenues by 19 percent to recover its costs and earn a fair return on capital.
If approved it would mean an increase of just over $12 a month for a residential customer currently paying $66 a month, or just over $27 a month for a commercial customer paying $183 a month.
Valley Energy last increased its rates in February of 2023.
The company is asking the Pennsylvania PUC to approve the change by June 29. If approved, the new rates would take effect near the end of this year or in early 2026.
