Valley fire departments knock down fires in Athens, Waverly

Valley fire departments were busy over the weekend as they battled fires in Athens Borough and Waverly.

On Friday night at approximately 7:30 p.m., the Waverly Barton Fire District responded to a structure fire on Elm Street.

Firefighters performed an aggressive interior attack while encountering heavy smoke and heat and knocked down the fire. Crews worked for several hours performing extensive overhaul before clearing the scene at around 11:30 p.m.

Firefighters from Athens Borough and Sayre along with Greater Valley EMS also responded to the scene.

On Saturday at around 12:30 p.m., the Athens Borough fire department responded to a structure fire on Maple Street.

Firefighters quickly knocked down the fire and the Red Cross is assisting the residents of the two-family home.

Firefighters from Sayre, Athens Township, Litchfield and North Towanda along with Greater Valley EMS responded to the incident.
