Tasers are the newest tools added to the arsenal of the Broome County Sheriff’s office.
Seventeen tasers were bought with about $18,000 recovered from drug busts. Deputies say the taser is an upgrade from pepper spray, which can still irritate a person days after being sprayed. They’re confident it’ll be a big help in situations where a person become uncooperative and combative.
The tasers were issued to all highway patrol deputies. Some are still undergoing training, which will be completed in the coming weeks.
