ABSENTEE BALLOTS TO BE COUNTED JULY 8.
Michael Korchak Fewer than 140 votes separate the two candidates in the widely publicized Republican primary for Broome County District Attorney. Right now, Paul Battisti holds a 137 vote lead over Michael Korchak. Roughly 600 absentee ballots still need to be counted before the Board of Elections can announce the winner. That count is scheduled for July 8 at the Board of Elections in the Broome County Office Building. GOP primary winner will face Democrat Debra Gelson, a Binghamton attorney, in the November election. Steve Conwell, the current district, did not seek re-election.
TIOGA COUNTY PRIMARIES
In the GOP primary for Owego town council, the unofficial winners were Jonathan Marks and Paul Conti. Michele Shelly Bogart won the Republican primary for Town of Tioga Justice; Russell Story won the Highway Superintendent race there. In other Republican primaries … in Candor, Kevin Noble won the Highway Superintendent race, James Douglas and James Brixey won the council race and Connie Dence won the Town Clerk race.
ENDICOTT MAYOR DEMOCRAT PRIMARY
Meanwhile, Cheryl Chapman, a long-time village trustee, is the apparent winner in the Democratic primary to run for Endicott mayor in the November election. Chapman ousted two challengers: Frank L. Palmisano, a former Endicott trustee, and Larry Coppola, a current trustee, from the mayoral race. Mayor John John Bertoni, 70, announced earlier this year that he would not seek re-election. Bertoni, a Democrat, has served three four-year terms as mayor of Broome County’s largest village.
