The Binghamton Fire Department has released the name of the firefighter who lost his life in the line of duty this week.
Firefighter John “JR” Gaudet was killed while battling a blaze on Main Street in downtown Binghamton late Wednesday night.
Gaudet was an 11-year veteran of the Binghamton Fire Department.
Local and state officials, area organizations and fire departments from across the Twin Tiers and beyond have offered their condolences to Gaudet’s family, the Binghamton Fire Department and the entire community.
The Binghamton Fire Department remembered Gaudet as fearless, dedicated and someone who always put others before himself.
Outside of the firehouse, Gaudet was involved in the community and coached many youth sports teams in Binghamton.
He leaves behind a wife and three young children.
