BINGHAMTON — A Broome County Jury found a Binghamton man guilty of burglary in the third degree and criminal mischief in the fourth degree on Thursday.
According to the Broome County District Attorney’s Office, Matthew Devaul faces up to seven years in New York State Prison after his conviction.
On Nov. 17, 2022, Devaul unlawfully entered a residence on McDonald Ave. in Binghamton and cut copper piping from the home. When confronted, he fled the residence.
Once the trial testimony concluded, Devaul refused to return to court while the jury deliberated. Judge Cawley issued a warrant for his arrest and a sentencing date will be set once Devaul is located.
The case was investigated by the Binghamton Police Department.
