Binghamton Mayor Jared Kraham is urging the City Council to pass a law that cracks down on illegal cannabis shops in the city.
Kraham’s latest call for tougher laws on the unlicensed stores comes after multiple underage individuals fell ill after eating cannabis gummies sold from Maryam’s Taste of Halal.
Enforcement officials from New York State’s Office of Cannabis Management conducted an inspection on the unlicensed cannabis shop on Court Street earlier this month. Cannabis products were seized and a notice of violation was issued.
Kraham said those looking to purchase cannabis should only visit licensed cannabis dispensaries.
The Binghamton Mayor proposed a law in October that would enhance local law enforcement’s authority to crack down on illegal cannabis shops.
