The Binghamton Region, which includes both Broome and Tioga counties, continues to buck the trend toward new job growth experienced by the rest of the state and the nation as a whole.
New York State added about 35,000 jobs between November and December of 2012, most of them in the downstate region. But the Binghamton Metro lost about 600 jobs during the same time period, in both government and private sector. In a 52-county upstate region, the metro area that continues to experience the best job growth is Ithaca, which added 3000 jobs between November and December. Meanwhile, the Buffalo area continues to suffer the worst job numbers, losing a total of 2100 jobs in the same time period.
