Three family members were killed in a house fire on Saturday in Binghamton.
Just after 5am, city firefighters were dispatched to a fire at 534 State Street. When they arrived, they say the three-story home was fully engulfed in flames. Fire Marshall Daniel Eggleston says firefighters tried to get inside but they were driven back by the hot-burning fire.
The three people inside the home when the fire broke out were not able to escape. Firefighters found the bodies of 61-year-old Robert Sindon, his son – 32-year-old Joseph Sindon – and Joseph’s 4-year-old daughter near the front door.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Robert was an active community member who once ran for City Council. He also taught Sunday school at St. Paul’s Catholic Church for two decades.
A candlelight vigil was held to remember the three at CFJ Park in Johnson City Sunday.
