As part of his effort to crack down on corruption and restore the public’s trust in government, New York Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman on Wednesday announced the appointment of a public integrity officer to serve in the Attorney General’s Binghamton Regional Office. Michael Danaher, Jr., of Binghamton, will be charged with giving taxpayers a place to go to report complaints of government corruption without fear of local politics influencing the outcome. As part of his sweeping reform initiative to restore confidence in the public sector, Schneiderman is placing public integrity officers in all of the regional offices across the state to police local government corruption. Danaher, Jr. has served as an Assistant Attorney General at the Attorney General’s office since 1998. During his tenure, he handled hundreds of consumer fraud cases while also supervising the Attorney General’s Consumer Mediation Program in the Binghamton region. Danaher has handled not-for-profit cases in the Southern Tier. Prior to joining the Attorney General’s office, he worked in private practice for 13 years as a partner in the law firm of Scanlon & Danaher in Endicott. Danaher handled civil and criminal litigation, trusts and estates, and real estate transactions. Danaher is a graduate of St. John Fisher College in Rochester with a degree in Business Management. He graduated with honors from Albany Law School of Union University. Individuals in the Southern Tier with information about public corruption cases are urged to contact Mr. Danaher at the Attorney General’s Binghamton Regional Office: (607) 721-8771.
