Fans of the newly crowned AHL champion Binghamton Senators got a chance to get up close and personal with the coveted Calder Cup trophy Wednesday. The Cup made a special appearance at the Warehouse Carpet Outlets in Johnson City, where fans got to pose and take pictures the trophy. The carpet store was selected because the owner had a friendly wager with the team. He bet the players that if they won the first playoff series, he would give them a free area rug. When the team made it to the finals, he upped the ante, given them a larger rug with padding. He says helping show of the trophy has a way to share the excitement of the win with fans.

More than 150 people stopped by to see the trophy. And while we were there checking out the trophy we found out an interesting tid bit about the Calder Cup. The Calder Cup only room for 20 teams on it, so each year that a new champion is crowned, a plaque has to be removed. This year, the B-Sens replaced the 1990-1991 winners, the Springfield Indians, who, up until that season, had been known as the Binghamton Whalers.
