Some airplanes coming into the Greater Binghamton Airport will now have a new place to park.
Broome County unveiled 20 new hangars Thursday at BGM which replace 15 old hangars. The area will house General Aviation aircraft, which include private and corporate planes, as well as those used for law enforcement and flight instruction. A total of $600,000 in state grants, plus bonded revenues from future leases at the hangar were used to pay for the $745,000 project. The county estimates the new facility will generate $21,000 in additional revenue each year at the airport through tenant leases. Construction of the hangar took about four months to complete. Currently, there are only two vacancies left for rent, which costs about $200 per month.
