The contractor in charge of demolition at the Midtown Mall faces up to $52,500 in fines for safety violations at the proposed student housing project last summer, according to a federal agency.
A July 28 inspection done by OSHA at 83 Court St. found employees of Binghamton’s MJ Scoville Incorporated were exposed to falls and weren’t monitored for lead exposure.
However, MJ Scoville has addressed many of the issues cited in the OSHA report and will appeal the fines levied by OSHA to get them reduced or eliminated according to Robert Murphy, the contractor’s attorney.
The OSHA citations are not related to the December 21st fire that gutted a major portion of the Midtown Mall.
