The Binghamton Fire Department has used Narcan, the medication to reverse the effects of a heroin overdose, seven times in the past two months. Mostly recently, the department used Narcan on Saturday to save a male overdose patient in the First Ward who was found unresponsive and not breathing. After being administered the medication, he was taken to Binghamton General Hospital where a full recovery is expected. Since April, every fire truck and first responder SUV in the city has been equipped with a Narcan kit. The Johnson City Fire Department will begin carrying the medication as well.
