A Binghamton man is in jail today, accused of stabbing his girlfriend multiple times while she slept early Thursday.
Police say 55-year-old Richard Wellburn stabbed the woman in the face and arm at their residence on Beethoven Street around 12am Thursday.
Neighbors who heard the commotion called 911. The woman, who has not been identified, was taken to Wilson Hospital for treatment of her injuries.
Wellburn has been charged with attempted murder. He remains in the city lockup awaiting arraignment.
