Binghamton Man Convicted of Assault on BU Student

Joseph Rojas, 24, of Binghamton, New York, was convicted of Assault in the First Degree in Broome County Court last week.
Early in the morning of August 29th, 2009 on State Street in Binghamton, Rojas attacked and seriously injured Binghamton University student George Hamelos, 22, of the Bronx.
Hamelos was knocked down and then Rojas stomped on his head as he lay in the street.
Hamelos, who suffered a severe closed head injury, skull fracture and laceration of his eyelid as a result of the assault, was in a coma for over a week after the attack.
Rojas was remanded to the Broome County Jail to await sentencing, which is scheduled for July 28th.
