Binghamton Man Sentenced as Persistent Offender

Gary Bateman, 50, of Binghamton, has been sentenced as a Persistent Felony Offender to twenty-five years to life in connection with his April 4th, 2010 conviction after trial for Robbery.
On March 29th, 2009, Bateman assaulted and stole a wallet from a woman walking to her car parked behind a restaurant on State Street in Binghamton.
Bateman was sentenced as a Persistent Felony Offender based on his prior convictions in Broome County Court for Assault in November 1981, Robbery, Sodomy and Sexual Abuse in November 1981 and Robbery and Grand Larceny in March 1996.
As noted by Judge Joseph Cawley, Bateman has served more than 26 years in prison since March 1980 for separate acts of violence against women.
