Binghamton Mayor Rich David announced a water bill relief plan yesterday for residents impacted by frozen pipes. The assistance plan would be available to any property owner who has reported frozen pipes to the City. As part of the City’s emergency repair process to restore water service, residents are advised to keep at least one faucet running at all times to prevent repeat freezes. According to the Mayor, the City will not charge residents for that extra water usage. The City will compare this year’s water charges to the same billing period in 2014. David said the City will then waive any charges above last year’s amount. David has sent the request for legislation to City Council to consider during today’s work session.
