With Request for Casino Applications coming out next month, most local leaders and groups have given their endorsement for casino proposals in the area, be it Tioga Downs in Nichols or Traditions Casino in Johnson City. Johnson City leaders, including their mayor, gave their support for Traditions, while Nichols, Tioga County, and Chemung County leaders and legislatures have backed Tioga Downs becoming a full casino, in some cases saying that a casino license going elsewhere would be devastating to Tioga County. One area leader yet to make a decision is Binghamton Mayor Rich David. David says he hasn’t seen enough details to make a decision because no casino proposal is currently present in Binghamton. Applications will start next month and if all goes to plan, a location will be selected by the state in the fall.
