Binghamton Police continue a busy week of crime fighting as they responded to Conklin Avenue Wednesday evening for an assault. A 22-year-old victim had a head laceration that occurred during an attempted robbery. The victim had let one of the suspects in, in an effort to sell a vehicle. The victim was assaulted by 3 men during the robbery attempt. One of the males “pistol whipped” the victim with a hand gun, and then attempted to obtain property from the victim. No shots were fired and the victim was transported by EMS to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The suspects fled the scene in an unknown direction. The incident is not considered a random act, and there is no threat to public safety. The victim and one of the suspects are known to each other. Binghamton Police Detectives are asking for clues at 607-772-7080.
Also Wednesday evening, the Binghamton Police Patrol Division responded to St. John Avenue for shots fired. A 32 year old male was found to have sustained a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his arm. It is believed that a dispute had occurred between the victim and two male suspects. The victim knew one of the suspects, and the incident may have occurred as a result of an attempted robbery. The victim of the shooting was transported by EMS to an area hospital for treatment. Officers later located one of the suspects in the area of Glenwood Ave. 40-year old-James Durham, of Binghamton was interviewed by Detectives and charged with Attempted Robbery. The second male suspect has not been located. He is described as a black male, 5’6”, with short black hair and a muscular build; he has tattoos on his arm and neck and was wearing a red t-shirt. This incident is not a random act, and there is no threat to public safety.
Police also say they believe the two assaults incidents are NOT related.
