After a recent string of robberies, Binghamton Police have posted a $1,000 reward for information that leads to a successful prosecution. Since last month alone, there have been nine cases in which a suspect showed a knife and stole cash from either a convenience store or Chinese restaurant in the city.
Police are also investigating three similar incidents which took place at locations in Johnson City last month. Each robbery occurred around the business’s closing time, and the suspects in the cases share similar descriptions.
The description of the suspects are limited, with some robberies committed by a black man wearing a ski mask or facial covering, and others by a white man who also had a mask. In each incident the suspect fled with cash and no injuries were reported. Robberies in Binghamton have taken place on Pennsylvania Avenue, Robinson Street, and Court Street, with the Johnson City robberies happening on Riverside Drive, Harry L. Drive, and Floral Avenue.
Investigators are asking that anyone who sees suspicious behavior or people walking into stores with facial coverings call police immediately. The Binghamton Detectives Division can be contacted at 772-7080.
