Binghamton Receives Grant From The Hoyt Foundation

Binghamton has received a grant worth nearly $50,000 from the Hoyt Foundation to help prevent flooding in the future. The grant, which comes in at $48,500, is the second grant issued to the city by the foundation, and comes after Binghamton received a $200,000 grant from the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. The purpose of the money is to help homeowners and businesses comply with city regulations put in place back in 2011, when Binghamton implemented stronger storm water and landscaping regulations in hopes to build a more flood-resistant community. If members of the community took steps to make their homes and properties less flood-prone, the city could give money to help off-set the cost. The regulations come in response to state mandates which call for building communities less prone to flooding.
