A Binghamton teen has been charged for check forgery. 19-year-old Casey Rafferty allegedly took a check from her employer, which was written for $99, and altered the check to read $999 when she attempted to cash it at a local bank. The bank teller refused to cash the check, causing Rafferty to go back to her employer to ask for a new check, claiming her rabbit had eaten the first one. After the employer became suspicious, they contacted the Broome County Sheriff’s Office, and an investigation revealed the alleged forgery. Rafferty is facing a felony count of criminal possession of a forged instrument and was arraigned in City of Binghamton Court.
