Binghamton University to Host Professional Medical Training Courses

Binghamton University’s Office of Continuing Education and Outreach will sponsor four specialized medical certificate-training courses, including Medical Billing and Coding Professional, Medical Assistant Administration, Pharmacy Technician, and EKG Technician.
The Medical Billing and Coding Professional course will begin on March 8. This 70-hour program will provide the valuable skills needed to solve insurance billing problems, manually file claims (using the CPT and ICD-9 manual), complete common insurance forms, trace delinquent claims, and use generic forms (CMS 1500) to streamline billing procedures.
The second course, a Medical Assistant Administration certificate program, will begin on March 14. This 50-hour course will provide background information on medical terminology, insurance billing and coding, medical ethics, customer service, and legal aspects.
The third course, which prepares pharmacy technicians, will begin on March 14. This 50-hour comprehensive overview will prepare students to enter the pharmacy field and to take the Pharmacy Technician Certificate Board’s PTCB exam. Course content includes medical terminology specific to the pharmacy, reading and interpreting prescriptions and defining drugs by generic and brand names, and more.
The fourth course, an EKG Technician Certificate Program, begins March 15 and is a 50-hour comprehensive course that prepares students to function as an EKG Technician and to take the ASPT – Electrocardiograph (EKG) Technician Exam and other National Certification exams.
Classes will be held from 6 pm to 9:30 pm at the Binghamton University Downtown Center, 67 Washington Street, Binghamton. These non-credit programs will provide students with marketable job skills, which are very important in today’s competitive environment. The fee for Medical Assistant Administration, Pharmacy Technician and EKG Technician programs is $999, and the fee for Medical Billing and Coding Program is $1,799. Textbooks are included in the price for all classes.
