Police canines and a witness phone call helped put a Binghamton man behind bars after he allegedly broke into a church. Just before 2 o’clock Saturday morning, a call came in for a man breaking a window and entering Calvary Baptist Church on Chenango Street in Binghamton. Officers and their canine partners arrived and surrounded the church when the suspect jumped from a second-floor window and attempted to flee. 25-year-old Eugene Allen was tracked down by police and canines and was found hiding in bushes. Allen attempted to choke one of the canines when he grabbed it by the neck, but he was taken into custody and had to be given medical treatment for a dog bite. He was charged with felony burglary and was sent to the Broome County jail.
