Community Members packed into the Central United Methodist Church in Endicott on Sunday to carry on the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Dr. King would have turned 82 years old this weekend. The civil rights activist was assassinated in April, 1968 when he was 39 years old.
The theme for the service was “We are Better Together”. Songs of praise by the Madrigal Choir of Binghamton filled the room throughout the service. At the end everyone joined together to light candles and sing Hymns in his honor.
Although Dr. King was the main honoree, victims of the Tucson shooting were also remembered. Church leaders say they hope the recent shooting will encourage people to take a more active role in their neighborhoods and communities.
