A Binghamton dog owner got a scare Wednesday when her boxer slipped into the icy waters of the Susquehanna River. Danielle Dollaway was walking her dog by her home on Murray Street. Officers say the dog was unleashed and wandered close to the edge of the river. The dog eventually slipped over the ice and into the freezing cold waters. Dollaway went up and down the street yelling for help. A neighbor responded by calling 9-1-1. Within minutes, police officers and the fire department responded to rescue her dog.
The fire department showed up with ice suits and boats in case somebody happened to fall into the river. A firefighter wearing an ice suit secured to a rope went out on the ice, grabbed the dog and brought it safely back to land.
A Binghamton Fire Ambulance drove Dollaway and her pet to the Companion Animal Clinic, where after a quick checkup, the dog was found to be okay, and sent home.
