DOT Announces Road Closures

The New York State DOT says that construction work for the Prospect Mountain Construction project will require lane closures in the City of Binghamton. Beginning today through Friday, from 7 am to 5 pm. The right lane will be closed on 17 West between Prospect Street/Exit 72 and Airport Road/Exit 71 for concrete work. Also starting today, there will be periodic alternating lane closures on Broad Avenue at the I-81/Route 17 interchange for concrete work and truck traffic associated with the construction of the new bridge over Broad Avenue and railroad. The right lane of I-81 North will be closed between Chenango Street and the I-81 North Bridge over the Chenango River for crews to transport and install steel bridge girders for the new Route 17 West Flyover Bridge over the Chenango River. Work will be performed weather permitting.

The DOT has also announced that construction work on the Pennsylvania Avenue Bridge will be performed starting at 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, August 1st and Wednesday, August 2nd in the city of Binghamton. Pennsylvania Avenue northbound will be closed from the Pennsylvania Avenue Bridge to the Conklin Avenue/South Washington Street intersection for bridge joint work. A signed detour will be in place for northbound Pennsylvania Avenue traffic. Northbound motorists will be directed to use the State Route 434 eastbound on ramp to South Washington Street. Flaggers will be on site to control traffic. Pennsylvania Avenue southbound will remain open and all ramps will also remain open.
