Stantz, 17, was a junior at Binghamton High School; Laserinko, 19, was a BHS graduate. The two were friends walking home from Recreation Park in Binghamton. The police investigation of the matter determined that a Jeep Wrangler was traveling southbound on Beethoven Street and left the roadway crossing over the east side curb line of the roadway and striking Stantz and Laserinko.  Both were Westside residents in the City. Wilcox in the Wrangler continued southbound through the front yards of 44 and 42 Beethoven Street. After striking two trees, his vehicle came to rest at the corner of Beethoven Street and Lincoln Avenue. The driver of the vehicle, Wilcox was detained at the scene and found to be uninjured. He was suspected to be under the influence of drugs, police said almost immediately after the accident.

All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
