Ownership for the Ellis Brothers Furniture store is taking the next steps as they look to recover from a fire that destroyed one of their buildings in downtown Binghamton. On Friday, the store’s owners submitted a plan to the city to level out their former site, which is still being demolished, creating a parking lot where the building once stood. That parking lot would serve building one of the Ellis Brothers store, which is still open and was not damaged by the fire at the end of April. The parking lot would also serve a new second building. Ownership has reportedly made an offer to move into the building at 1 Hawley Street. The plans have to be approved by the city before they can officially be finalized.
