Fireworks Complaint Leads To Drug Arrest

Binghamton police officers were dispatched to a routine complaint over the weekend. While on scene at 9 Eaton Place, they heard fireworks coming from outside the building. They found 44-year-old Joaquin Molina-Cartagena (Cart-ay-nya), of Binghamton, setting them off. It turns out he had an outstanding arrest warrant for drug possession, and during his arrest, they found 209 envelopes of heroin hidden in the front of his pants. Police say they discovered it after one of the envelopes fell out. The man was charged with one count of criminal possession of a controlled substance, one count of unlawfully dealing with fireworks, and one count of outstanding arrest warrant for criminal possession of a controlled substance, issued by Binghamton City Court.
