A former Binghamton bank manager will spend four years in federal prison.
40-year-old Thomas Cararo was handed down that sentence from Senior US District Court Judge Thomas McAvoy in Binghamton Tuesday. Cararo was convicted of embezzling $410,000 in cash from a Dickinson man’s safety deposit box.
Cararo, who now lives in North Carolina, will be allowed to spend the holidays with his family before he starts serving his sentence in January. He will also be forced to pay back the money that he stole.
A federal jury convicted Cararo in June. The former manager at the Citizens Bank branch in Binghamton could have received up to 30 years in jail.
