A man was taken to the hospital in critical condition after a 4,000 pound concrete slab fell on top of him and partially pinned him to the ground yesterday afternoon. Broome County Sheriff’s Office Highway Patrol responded to Binghamton Precast & Supply Corporation on 17 Thomas Street at approximately 3:20 p.m. When deputies arrived on the scene, co-workers had lifted the concrete off the victim, James Church. Church was unconscious and appeared to have sustained head and leg injuries. Detectives said Church was in the process of loading concrete slabs onto a trailer when one of the slabs shifted and slid forward, knocking him to the ground and partially pinning him. A short time later, a co-worker found Church and called 911. No foul play is suspected, and his current condition is unknown.
