Katie Scott-Hlavac is battling a congenital defect of her pancreatic ducts called Pancreas Divisum which has resulted in years of acute recurrent pancreatitis attacks. The progression of this disease has resulted in the need for removal of her entire pancreas with an Auto Islet Cell Transplant, scheduled for February 10th at the (UPMC) University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
Katie is known to many in the community as a Nurse Practitioner and Certified Diabetes Educator at Diabetic Care Associates, Dr. R. A. Ramanujan’s Endocrinology/Internal Medicine practice where she dedicates herself to serving the medical needs of others. Before Katie joined Diabetic Care Associates she was a nurse at UHS Hospital for many years.
Katie is also known to many in the community for her singing. Katie shares her musical talent with our community by singing in church, at weddings and community events. Katie has performed with several of the areas finest bands including TRIX, Tres Chic’, Millennium and currently Katie’s Band Persuasion. Katie is a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
Please assist us in reaching out to Katie in her time of need so we may ease some of the financial burdens caused by this devastating illness. We hope and pray for Katie’s recovery.
