The attorneys for Senator Tom Libous and his son are arguing that the accusations against them made by the government are too vague for them to prepare an adequate defense without more information. Libous and his son, Matthew, were indicted on July 1st in connection to a federal investigation that has spanned the past four years which has looked into allegations that the senator helped get his son a job at a law firm in Westchester County by using his political influence. Libous is accused of convincing a lobbying firm to pay part of his son’s salary for the law firm. He is also accused of lying to federal investigators when interviewed about the allegations back in 2010. Both Libous and his son have entered not guilty pleas, and Libous’ office released a statement following his indictment stating that the senator maintained his innocence and is planning on running for reelection.
