The Brooklyn man convicted of murdering a Binghamton man was sentenced today in Broome County Court. 32-year-old Maurice Anthony was convicted in June following a trial for the shooting death of Eric Dantzler in Johnson City back in December of 2010. According to prosecutors, Anthony tried to steal money and marijuana from Dantzler when he shot him with a handgun. Now Anthony has been sentenced to life without parole. After Dantzler was shot, Anthony fled the scene, and Dantzler later died at UHS Wilson Medical Center, a block from where he was shot. A lead in the case surfaced in August of 2011 when Johnson City Police were made aware by police in Pennsylvania that a potential suspect was jailed in Monroe County for an unrelated drug charge. Surveillance video from a convenience store also confirmed that Dantzler and Anthony had been together earlier that night. Anthony was then indicted in February of 2012 for felony counts of first-degree murder, second-degree murder, and attempted first-degree robbery.
