Mayor Rich David laid out ambitions for the year ahead as he delivered his second State of the City address last night. In the coming year the Mayor says he plans to build off of last year’s success by continuing to increase public safety, improve infrastructure and boost economic development. He says Binghamton is back in the game. In 2015 David says he will continue to work towards making the streets of Binghamton safer by purchasing 34 body cameras for police officers. The Mayor also announced that he will reallocate $1 million dollars in federal funding towards impactful community projects. A large portion of the Mayor’s plan for 2015 involves the continued revitalization of the city’s infrastructure. David says that 13.5 miles of city streets including Riverside Dr. and Front Street will undergo improvements and $1.3 million will be spent on parking garage repairs. In total $28 million worth of projects will be implemented in the coming year. According to David, infrastructure improvements are key to luring new businesses to the area. While the David says he recognizes his plan is highly aggressive he feels it will make Binghamton safer, prosperous and more vibrant.
