160 members of the National Guard’s 827th Engineer Company returned home Wednesday to a highly emotional welcome.
The unit had spent about a year in Afghanistan constructing roads, bases, and checkpoints.
All members, from Horseheads, Binghamton, Buffalo and Walton, returned safe.
Two returned with purple hearts.
For many of these soldiers, this was their second or third deployment.
