National Weather Bureau Issues Area Flood Watch

The National Weather Service in Binghamton has issued a Flood Watch for a large portion of central New York… including the following counties: Tioga, Broome, Chenango, Cortland, Otsego, Chemung, and Steuben.
The Weather Service believes there is a 25-30% chance the area will see a major flood event.
The watch is in effect from Thursday morning through Friday evening.
1 to 3 inches of rain coupled with snow melt could lead to significant flood problems in the watch area.
The potential exists for significant flooding on the Susquehanna River and its tributaries.
At this time, water levels in Vestal will peak right around major flood stage. The peak is expected Friday night through Sunday.
In Owego, the crest looks to produce minor flooding.
The potential exists for minor to moderate flooding on the Chemung river and its tributaries.
The potential exists for major flash flooding on smaller streams and creeks… poor drainage and low-lying areas.
