Police Chase Reaches Speeds Over 100 MPH

Broome County Sheriff’s deputies were involved in a police chase early this morning. Just after four o’clock, a deputy noticed a vehicle driving at an excessive speed on Upper Court Street in Binghamton. When the deputy attempted to pull the vehicle over, it accelerated to speeds over 100 miles per hour. The suspect ran a red light and continued to flee south on Route 11. With assistance from State Police, the deputy was able to stop the vehicle less than two miles from the Pennsylvania border. 22-year-old Matthew Hartman of Port Crane was found to have a suspended driver’s license and he was also found to be in possession of a small amount of drug paraphernalia.

He was taken into custody without incident and is facing multiple charges, including unlawfully fleeing a police officer and reckless endangerment. Hartman also had two male passengers in the car at the time, ages 16 and 17, who were both uninjured.
