Police Make Arrest in Stabbing of Sleeping Homeless Man

Binghamton police arrested Saquawon Linton, 23, in Syracuse and charged him with the rabdom stabbing early Monday of a homeless man who was sleeping on a bench at the  downtown Binghamton bus station. Arrested was Saquawon Linton, male, born 04/14/1996, of 150 Moeller St., Carlisle Hills Apt. #7-01, Binghamton.


Police give this account: After the stabbing early Monday, the investigation identified Linton as the lone suspect. Detectives pursued leads that took them to Syracuse where Linton was located and taken into custody without incident.


Detectives transported Linton to Binghamton Police Headquarters to further the investigation. Detectives executed search warrants on a vehicle and a Binghamton apartment. There was no apparent motive. This attack is believed to be a random act committed by Linton with no known connection to the victim, who remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition. No other suspects are being sought.


Linton was charged with Attempted Murder 2nd Degree, a Class B felony offense, and was held for arraignment. Anyone with additional information is urged to contact the Binghamton Police Detective Division at 607-772-7080.
