A tornado warning was in effect in Tioga County Sunday evening, and severe thunderstorm warnings were issued throughout the area. The warning was first issued around 5 o’clock Sunday after tornado-like storm patterns were spotted in Schuyler and Chemung counties, moving east from Watkins Glen toward the Van Etten area. The tornado-like patterns dissipated before reaching the Spencer and Candor area, but heavy storming did cause some downed trees and power lines throughout the area. The heavy storming spanned the Southern Tier and some areas in Broome County experienced flooding, including Chenango and Emma streets in Binghamton. No injuries were reported but some cars were stranded in the flood waters. A power line in Endwell reportedly caught fire near JFK Boulevard but was under control by seven o’clock last night.
