President Obama’s trip to Binghamton University is approaching and the buzz is increasing. Binghamton Mayor Matt Ryan says he’s excited to welcome the President to the region.
Mayor Ryan says it will be a great opportunity to focus on the positives in the community, including the great research and educational opportunities at BU. He says he hopes the President walks away with a great impression of Binghamton, but also an understanding of the challenges facing the region. It won’t be Mayor Ryan’s first presidential encounter. He says he remembers being the only person to sneak a protest sign into President Reagan’s 1984 visit. He also met President Clinton when he was campaigning on behalf of Maurice Hinchey. Mayor Ryan says he also briefly met President Obama, but only in passing.
