The Binghamton Fire Department was called to 40 Frederick Street Saturday in Binghamton for a report of a house fire. Just before 7:30 Saturday, the call came in for the fire, which the crews said broke out in a bedroom in the upstairs apartment of the home. The fire was contained to just the one room and did not cause damage anywhere else in the home. Firefighters say that smoke detectors alerted the family of the fire shortly after it started, leading to the five people in the home being about to safely escape, although one person had to be treated for smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
